My sister and I rode and walked with Marula (the matriarch of the group) and Thandi who shakes his head in the video to get rid of ticks and to cool down. These gentle giants were amazing! Our ride with the elephants isn’t in the video, but we have pics on Facebook. We learned about their anatomy and their behavior. When walking with an elephant, you reverse cup your hand and hold the elephant’s trunk behind you. It makes them feel safe and they will bond with you. It was natural for me and my sister, in that the elephant’s breath through their trunk was warm and moist (a little icky if you think about it), but it was definitely a bonding experience. Then when you get up close and stare into the elephant’s eyes, and it’s more than bonding!!! Heidi is with the blue quilted down jacket and I’m with the blue fleece jacket, the baseball cap, and backpack.

NY has just had an abnormally mild winter, which was preceded by an abnormally early snow storm. I had not even taken the down jacket out of the closet. Across the Atlantic Ocean, Europe was unusually cold. Human disasters are also more frequent and more irrational. Mistaken burning of books of Koran turned into riots and murders in Afghanistan. You may not be surprised as that’s their consistent behavior. Moreover, ever since 911, some groups of Islamists have abandoned all diplomatic efforts with the western world. The western world’s tolerance meanwhile has been diminishing. Conflicts are more frequent and severe as expected. Besides natural disasters, recent strange phenomena related to humans are even more intriguing. Tim Tebow was often described as a flawed athlete. Yet he helped his team win 6 games in a row. He was also a devout Christian. His father was a pastor in the Philippines when he was born. Her mother suffered from a life-threatening infection while pregnant with him. Her doctor recommended an abortion because the baby could be still born due to the medication. The Tebows refused and eventually Tim was born a healthy baby.
